Acceptable Materials

There are a wide variety of materials that can be used in the laser cutter. The materials that have been tested and approved for use in the laser cutter are on sale in the Materials and Methods Shop Store. (Parker Hall, Room 2 or call 829-3510)

Materials List

Power and Speed settings are available for the materials listed below that are in BOLD

  • Paper
    • 1/16" museum board
    • 1/4" cardboard
  • Acrylic (Cast or Extruded)
    • 1/32" acrylic
    • 1/16"acrylic
    • 1/8" acrylic
    • 1/4"acrylic
    • 3/8" acrylic
    • 1/2" acrylic
  • Wood
    • 1/16" birch plywood
    • 1/32" basswood
    • 1/16" basswood
    • 1/4" basswood
    • 3/32" basswood
  • Chipboard
    • 1/16" (1-ply chipboard)
    • 1/8" (2-ply chipboard

Materials that have not been tested may be submitted for testing (1 week) before the actual Laser cutting project is to start. If the material testing is successful and the material is approved, then the necessary configuration information will be posted to this site.

NOTE: The Computing Resources Labs reserves all right to reject any material that does not meet the necessary standards and safeguards for use in the laser cutter.
