Recently, there has been a rash of "email attacks" which have been spoofing faculty and staff email account addresses. As a result, some faculty and staff have been receiving a large quantity of "Undeliverable" or "Delivery failure" notices. Unfortunately, there is no way to stop these messages from arriving in your Inbox but you can insert a mail rule to filter these emails to the deleted item bin. Please follow these directions.

Launch Microsoft Outlook. Click on the TOOLS menu and select RULES AND ALERTS. The window pictured to the left appears. Click on the NEW RULE button in the upper left hand corner.
Once Outlook has started, click on the TOOLS menu and select Rules and Alerts. The window pictured on the left will appear. Click on the Options button located in the upper right hand corner of the Rules and Alerts window. |

The Rules wizard box pictured to the left appears. Click on MOVE MESSAGES WITH SPECIFIC WORDS IN THE SUBJECT TO A FOLDER. Click NEXT In the upper portion of the rules wizard window (Step 1: Select Condition(s)), make sure that a ckeck mark is placed in the option for WITH SPECIFIC WORDS IN THE SUBJECT. In the lower portion of the rules wizard (Step 2: Edi the rule description), click on he underlined value that is highlighted in blue. First click on the "specific words" rule description. A Search Text window appears. Type the following words into the upper window and click the ADD button after each phrase below:
Once the list is complete, click the OK button which will close the window and update the Rules Wizard window. In the Step 2 window, click on the "specified" folder rule description, the Rules and Alerts window will appear and ask to choose a folder. Highlight the DELETED ITEMS folder and click OK. Click on the FINISH button. |

Please notice that the new rule appears in the Rules and Alerts window. Please verify that the rule appears with a checkbox on the left next to the new rule. Please also verify that the rule description reads as follows: Apply this rule after the message arrives with "Mail Delivery Failure" or "Mail Delivery Failed" or "Failure notice" or Undeliverable" in the subject move it to the Deleted items folder. You can now run the rule in order to delete any message that are already in your mailbox by clicking on the Run Rules now button at the top of the Rules and Alerts window. If you are now done with the Rules and Alerts window, click the OK button at the bottom to make the window disappear. |
