Connecting to Email Using a Browser

Email supported by the Digital Media Group is now accessible through any JAVA-Enabled browser. This is applicable to Internet Explorer and Netscape.

NOTE: Some security settings for each browser may disable certain types or all types of java from running. If problems are experienced trying to access the site, try lowering the security options for the browser.

New web mail interface

1.Type:

http://www.ap.buffalo.edu/webmail

into a browser address window.

2. Enter your UBit username and your password. Click OK or press ENTER.

If there is a problem with the above address, you can go directly to the web access interface via this address:

https://ubitfe-cc1.cit.buffalo.edu

New browser based email interface

4. The browser transforms into a view which is similar to a MS Outlook.

Note: This interface does not work the same way as the full version of Outlook. Each command will make a separate window appear. If you are using a pop up blocker (an application which stops browser windows from popping up without notice), you must disable it.

5. Getting to know the icons:

From left to right pictured in the screenshot to the left:

  1. New: compose a new mail message
  2. Reply: reply to highlighted message in the mail list
  3. Reply to all: reply to all recipients of the highlighted message in the mail list
  4. Forward: send this message to another email address
  5. Two envelopes: Check for new mail
  6. Magnifying glass: Search mail folder for something
  7. Folder with arrow: Move highlighted email to another folder
  8. "X": delete highlighted message
  9. Recycling bin: Empty deleted items bin.
