Recent updates to departmental laptops may be keeping the systems from connecting to home or UB wireless networks.
Please follow these directions to resolve the problem:
- Click on the following link (SEP 11 Firewall rules). Save the file to the desktop or another appropriate location where you can easily find it.
- Go to the location where the file was saved and double click on the file. The file will open in a new window. Click on the extract all files in the left hand menu. Click through the extraction process by clicking next - next - finish. It will extract the file to a new folder named WORKSTATION in same location as where the file was saved.
- Locate the yellow shield in the lower left of the Windows Desktop (to the left of the clock). Double click on the yellow shield.
- In the Symantec Endpoint protection program window, verify that the STATUS tab is selected on the left of the program window.
- Under the Network Threat Protection option on the lower right of the program window, click on the OPTIONS button and select Configure Firewall Rules.
- In the Configure Firewall Rules options window, select the first rule listed and click on the DELETE button. Delete all of the default rules listed.
- Once all of the rules have been deleted, right click in the rules listing area and select IMPORT RULE.
- In the Import window, navigate to the location where you save the file from STEP 1, select the file (workstation.sar) and click on the OPEN button.
- Your firewall should be properly configured and your problem connecting to the wireless network should be resolved.
IF the above steps do not resolve your connectivity problems, you can disable the Network Threat Protection (not recommended unless have a problem that can not be resolved) by clicking on the Options button and selecting the Disable Network Threat Protection option.
