How to transfer personal and course web sites to UBFS

Personal web site activation and migration

  1. First, you must activate your personal web site on your UBFS account. To do so, follow this link:

    http://ubit.buffalo.edu/ubfs/edithomepage.php

and click on TURN ON YOUR HOMEPAGE.
  2. This will activate your web site that is stored on your UBFS (central storage space and web server). It will make your web site address:

http://www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~UBITname (replace UBITname with your username).

  3. Once the central account has been activated, you can now start to move your site from ARPL-6 to your UBFS web site.
  4. Start by opening My Computer.
  5. Double click on the W:\ drive. This is the mapping to your personal web site at the School of Architecture and Planning.
  6. Once your W:\ drive is open. Click on the Edit menu and click on SELECT ALL. This will highlight all of the files in the folder. Next click on the Edit Menu and click on Copy.
  7. Return to My Computer.
  8. Double click on the U:\ drive. This is your connection to your UBFS file storage space.
  9. Double click on the PUBLIC_HTML folder. This is the folder that will host your personal web site.
  10. Click on the Edit menu and select PASTE. All of the files will commence copying from your School of Architecture and Planning web site to your UB web site. If you are prompted to overwrite an existing file, SELECT YES.
  11. Once the copying has completed, you can now verify that you web site is active by visiting the following web address:

    http://www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~UBITname
  12. Once complete, you MUST email Bruce (bruce@buffalo.edu) to confirm with him that you have completed the transfer.

Course web site transfer and migration

Course web sites will no longer be hosted on the School of Architecture and Planning web server and will need to be hosted on your personal web space on UBFS or use UBLearns (http://ublearns.buffalo.edu).

When hosting your course web site as a part of your personal web site, copy all of your course web site files and folders to a new folder named as your course number (i.e. ARC122).

This will make your course's web address: http://www.acsu.buffalo.edu/~UBitName/ARC122.

Troubleshooting

1. My web site does not appear

  • Verify that your homepage is named index.html or index.htm
  • Verify that your index.html file copied correctly from W:\ to the U:\public_html folder.

2. It will not allow me to copy the files to the U:\ drive.

  • The public_html folder is a part of your UBFS storage space. This is the same storage area on which your I:\ drive is stored. If you have filled your I:\ drive quota, you will not be able to copy your web sites to your UBFS space until enough data is removed or archived. You can check your quota by following this link:

    http://www.acsu.buffalo.edu/ubfs_quota.html
