Introduction to storage

Where do I save my personal or course related data?

Introduction to your personal storage (I:\ Drive)

Each student enrolled in the School of Architecture and Planning is provided a central storage area to save personal data. When logged into the computers located in the School of Architecture and Planning, this area on the server appears as the I:\ drive in My Computer.

  • Storage limits (quotas) are as follows:
    • Students: up to 2 GB
    • Visitors: 250 MB
  • The I:\ drives are protected from loss that might occur from viruses, data corruption, and accidental deletion.

When this limit is approached, a warning is issued; if the drive reaches capacity then all data on the drive is rendered READ-ONLY.

  • apps: Location of network applications like plot and laser spooler
  • Courses: Location of all shared data in support of the courses offered in the School.
  • Library: Library of available 3d Studio Max, AutoCAD and GIS application data available on the network.
  • Orgs: Location of data for all organizations within the School
  • research: Location of share data for the major research centers in the School (IDEA, CVA, CUS, etc.)
  • School: Location for materials public ally distributed throughout the School.

The shared drive is protected from loss that might occur from viruses, data corruption, and accidental deletion.

When the storage limit is approached, no warning is issued; if the drive reaches capacity then all data on the drive is rendered READ-ONLY.

NOTE: The storage of files which are in violation of copyright laws is not permitted on the share drive. This effects the following file types:

  • all music formats (mp3, wmv, etc.)
  • all executables (*.exe)
